Sport Relief/Jazzercise mile challenge
Burwell, Newmarket & Red Lodge Jazzercisers Complete 1.95km for Sport Relief
Over 30 Jazzercisers today completed a Jazzercise session where 1.95km was travelled in total (well exceeding the "Sport Relief Mile" or 1.5km target). Everyone wore red and white and one lady dressed up as a rather glamorous clown for the event! All were sponsored for strutting their stuff in the hour-long workout and, at the time of writing, a total of £600 was reached. More funds are expected to come in over the next 48 hours.........
Anita McCallum, an instructor for 5 years, led the workout, offering a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kick boxing movements. Benefits include increased cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility, as well as that overall "feel good" factor that comes from working out and from making money for a great cause.Sarah Gray, the Jazzercise Franchise Holder for the area, explains: "Our Jazzercisers are well-known for their generosity and big hearts, helping Comic Relief to the tune of £1200 in 2007 and Jazzercise Nationally raised over £60,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital last year. Our target is £500 in sponsorship this time around for Sport Relief. It looks like we are going to exceed that total for this particular event and break the £600 mark - not bad at all in a global economic recession!"
Why not shake a supportive leg during Sport Relief Weekend and do a Jazzercise Mile?
We will be having a special Jazzercise class to help raise money for this great cause, doing as many "travelling" Jazzercise routines as possible to cover a mile during the class.
As many of you will be aware, the BBC will be featuring a whole series of events and programmes over the weekend of 19 - 21 March, so there will be a lot of supporting publicity and general buzz about it. Where there are Jazzercise routines to songs featured on the Celebrity Sport Relief - Katey Brand and "Single Ladies" springs to mind - then we will be doing them! There will also be Sport Relief Goodies for those making a special effort for this great cause - including water bottles, limited edition socks and wrist bands!
